The Violin can be started from the age of six/seven onwards. It is an extremely versatile instrument with lots of opportunities. Within a term or so a very easy open string part is often an option within a school orchestra. Later on violinists are usually welcomed into orchestras as so many are required.
Occasionally strings will need replacing and bows re-hairing but generally maintenance costs of stringed instruments is low. Expect to change up to a larger size of violin every couple of years until about the age of 12, when the pupil would be onto a full size instrument. With this regular changing, hiring is a popular option. |
