The clarinet

Teacher: Mrs. Bridgett Jeffrey, Dip ABRSM

The Clarinet is a very versatile instrument with a lovely mellow tone. It is played in wind bands, orchestras, jazz ensembles and clarinet choirs. Lessons can be taken from the age of about 8, provided the child is strong enough.

Like all woodwind instruments the keywork is delicate and clarinets need treating with great care. Reeds are easily damaged but fairly cheap. Allow £5 per term as a guide. Every 2-3 years clarinets should be serviced to keep them working at their best. Learning is hard enough without having to deal with a poor instrument!

A service costs around £100.
